Fashion designer Elie Saab began his designing by cutting cloth and drawing sketches for his sisters in Lebanon. At eighteen, Saab studied fashion in Paris but left a year later to open a workshop in Beirut. Elie Saab wasn't a known designer until actress Halle Berry introduced the designer to the world at the 2002 Oscars. The floral embroidered burgundy gown made Saab an overnight star, after that you can now spot every celebrity wearing his designs on the red carpet. Known for mixing Arabic and Western influences, he uses materials like taffeta (woven fabric made of silk), organza (also made of silk) and satin intertwined with liquid fabric muslin and lace. Lebanese elegance is evident in the evening gowns, showcasing sequined and studded dresses with clean and simple lines.
